Position available for Postdoctoral Scholar at The Department of Earth System Science at UC Irvine |
The Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to study climate impacts and solutions. There are three potential research tracks for the Postdoctoral Scholar: 1) Climate-economic modeling of uncertainty in climate damage. 2) Climate-energy system modeling of the role of climate uncertainty in the energy system. 3) Air pollution-energy system modeling of the impact of policy on air quality. The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to focus on at least one of the above tracks, and if interested, they will have the opportunity to address two of the above tracks, so long as their background and experience is suitable.

NPR: Renewable energy outpaces coal for electricity generation in historic first, report says |
For the first time, renewables have overtaken coal as the world’s main electricity source, generating 34.3% of global power in early 2025, Ember reports. Growth in China and India drove the shift, while coal use fell 0.6% and emissions slightly declined. Rising energy demand from AI, crypto, and industry still pressures clean energy expansion, but this marks a major tipping point toward a greener global grid. |
