The Energy & Biosciences Institute (EBI) expects to have funding available as part of the EBI-Shell research program to support research projects in four new selected thematic areas focused on:
1) Nature Based Solutions (NBS)
2) Circularity (CIR)
3) Hydrogen Supply Chain (HSC)
4) Advanced Separations (SEP)

Applicants must submit a preproposal by 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Friday, July 16 to be eligible to submit a Full Application.

UCB:
Please ensure that you submit your preproposal via Phoebe and adhere to campus requirements (e.g., VCRO, IAO/SPO policies).
Non-UCB:
Please be sure to include the name(s) and contact information of the person(s) responsible for budget development and institutional/administrative documents in your preproposal.
UIUC:
Please contact EBI Deputy Director, Chris Rao, cvrao@uiuc.edu, for guidance and technical questions.
LBNL: LBNL pre-proposals, when submitted to the EBI, should also be cc’d to spo@lbl.gov. Full proposals to EBI by LBNL PIs must be routed through the Lab’s normal process for requesting external funding. As a reminder, LBNL PIs should work with their Division’s Resource Analysts, using the eSRA system, and include any required documentation by Friday, Sep 24. These proposals will then be reviewed by the Strategic Partnerships Office’s Contracting Officer(s) and submitted to the EBI on October 1. This is necessary to ensure relevant DOE approvals are processed as required and as quickly as possible.
